Why does my statement say "COGNITO TECH" or "COGNITO"?

Cognito Technology Canada Inc. processes payments on behalf of other businesses. When you buy a product or subscription from a company we work with, the charge appears under our name on your statement instead of theirs. This is normal for payment processors that handle payments for multiple merchants.

Yes. Cognito Technology Canada Inc. is a registered Canadian company based in Ontario. If you recently bought a subscription, digital product, or service from one of our partner businesses, this is that charge. Use the lookup tool above to identify which business billed you.

I do not recognize the COGNITO charge. What do I do?

Start with the lookup tool above. It will identify the partner business behind your charge. If you still do not recognize the business after the lookup, email us at hello@cognitotech.ca with the date, amount, and last four digits of your card. We respond within one business day.
Please do not file a dispute with your bank until you have heard back. A dispute typically takes four to six weeks to resolve and can pause your access to the partner service while it is open. Our reply will be faster.

How do I get a refund from COGNITO TECH?

Most refunds are handled by the partner business that sold you the product or subscription. Use the lookup tool to find them and check their refund policy. If you cannot reach the partner business directly, email us at hello@cognitotech.ca and we will route the request.

How do I cancel a subscription billed by COGNITO TECH?

You cancel through the partner business that sold you the subscription, not through us. The lookup tool will identify them and link to their account or cancellation page. If you have already cancelled with the partner and a charge still went through, contact us and we will investigate.

Is COGNITO TECH the same as AWS Cognito?

Accepted Answer

No. AWS Cognito is an Amazon Web Services product for user identity and authentication. Cognito Technology Canada Inc. is an unrelated Canadian company that processes payments for partner businesses. Charges from AWS appear on your statement as AMAZON or AWS, not COGNITO TECH.

No. Cognito Technology Canada Inc. is a registered Canadian company with a public address, support contact, and lookup process. Real scam charges almost never have a clear identification process or a contactable parent entity. Why is the charge from Canada when I bought from a non-Canadian company?

Accepted Answer

Because we process the payment in Canada on behalf of the partner business. Many startups and digital businesses cannot directly access Stripe or other payment processors in their own country, so we accept payments under our Canadian entity and remit revenue to the partner business on a schedule. Your purchase is from them, the bank transaction is through us.
